My Story

I started RG Painting and Construction in 2001 with a single principle: treat every home like it's our own.

I came up through the trades the way most contractors do,  starting with a brush in my hand, learning what good prep looks like, then learning what bad prep looks like by being called to fix it. Over the years I added the credentials and experience to handle entire homes, drywall, framing, finish carpentry, stucco, water damage restoration, full kitchens, full bathrooms, ADUs.

I hold a California general contractor license (CSLB #931758), which let me do what most local painters and restoration companies legally cannot, handle a project from initial paint scope through full reconstruction without subcontracting half the work to outside teams.

My Expertise

After 24+ years working on Santa Barbara homes, I've developed specific expertise in three areas:

🎨 Painting

Interior, exterior, cabinet refinishing, commercial. I specialize in coastal homes — the kind where salt air, marine layer humidity, and intense UV break down standard paint jobs in 5-7 years. We use marine-grade primers, premium products from Sherwin-Williams, Benjamin Moore, and Dunn-Edwards, and prep techniques developed specifically for the Mesa, Montecito, Hope Ranch, and Carpinteria coastal exposure.

🔨 Home Remodeling and Construction

Kitchens, bathrooms, ADUs, garage conversions, additions, whole-home renovations. I handle every trade in-house — framing, drywall, finish carpentry, electrical and plumbing coordination — under one project manager. My team works on everything from compact remodels in 1950s-1970s tract homes to high-end estate renovations on the bluffs.

💧 Water Damage and Mold Remediation

This is where my CSLB license matters most. California Business and Professions Code Section 7028 requires a CSLB-licensed contractor for any repair work over $500. Most restoration companies in Santa Barbara hold IICRC certifications but not GC licenses, which means they legally cannot rebuild after cleanup. I can — and do. Same-day response, full reconstruction, one team accountable from leak to finished room.
